Scream 2 written review

Film: Scream 2
Starring: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Jerry O'Connell, David Arquette

I must say; I am impressed. What a fantastic sequel, this was a lot of fun and had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

The story follows Sidney Prescott (Campbell), a college student who is once again being stalked by a deranged killer in a ghostly mask. What is great about this film (and much like the first) is the narrative paints everybody as a killer which leaves the spectator assuming many people to be the culprit. The film is definitely a product of it's time much like the American Pie films and it paints a delightful insight into late 1990's college life. The characters are all well cast (especially David Arquette, who plays the dimwitted cop character) and the pacing is very good, also the jump scares and unsettling score make for a great experience.

So, Scream 2 is well worth a look and a surprisingly enjoyable sequel. It's only downfall would be a somewhat lack of gore, (ironically it is often mentioned by characters in the film that horror sequels are much more gory than the first film, whether this was done on purpose I can't be sure) other than that it is very good. I give the film:

7.5/10, essential Horror viewing!
