Lily: I..Like..You.
Day 2 Of My 31 Days Of Horror 3
How truly disappointing this is. A horror anthology movie that manages to screw Most of it's content up. V/H/S Has a really intriguing premise, but unfortunately doesn't execute it well. While naming itself after a defunct format, it falls flat on it's face. I will say though, the filmmakers came out with a cool exclusive for the film, where the movie is actually on a VHS. Very cool.
The film follows a group of robbers that break into a local home. They stumble upon a box of recorded VHS Tapes. They decide to watch them one by one, with each one getting stranger and stranger, and bloodier and bloodier. I won't go into them for a few reasons, 1, I actually forget 4 of the 5 stories because they were so boring and 2, there are 5 of them, so it would take a while.
Now the first story is brilliant(Hence the 1.5 star rating) It's the first 30 minutes of the film. A group of guys stumble upon this woman at a club and decide to take her home. As the woman and one of the men start to engage in coitus(I think you know what I mean, and if you don't, Intercourse, Animal Planet, Releasing The Fishes, Knocking Boots, Rolling In The Hay, Unleashing The Fury, Skinning a Dingo Upside Down, Sex.) The woman bites the man, turning into this hideous creature with her head spilt down the middle. Haunting and truly scary.
The rest of the stories are forgettable. The rest of the movie turns into a really low-rent found footage film, like Paranormal Activity 2, 3, 4, Chernobyl Diaries, The Devil Inside, The Apparition, so on and so forth. These stories do nothing to make you want to care and are incredibly boring and unforgivingly forgettable.
To make matter worse, the film clocks in at an unrelentlessly 116 Minutes. Also for a horror, film it's really violent to the point where I actually got sick of seeing it. Does a horror film really have to be so bloody? According to V/H/S, it does.
This film is such a disaster. With exception of the first Half-Hour, the other stories are really boring, The film is overloaded on violence and it is so, freakin' boring. There just so happens to be V/H/S/2, but I will be in no rush to see it. V/H/S, is nothing more than a low-rent disappointment.
